Surgery Facilities

Overnight Nursing Care

In the event of your pet having to stay in with us through illness or for post-op recovery, the duty nurse will check them as often as their condition dictates, through-out the night. One of our Vets is also on call 24/7 should the nurse have any cause for concern.

In order to keep our out-of-hours care affordable, our nurses work night shifts as part of their normal rota. This means that although they will be on the premises, the nurse may be asleep, or out of the immediate vicinity of the kennel area.

During normal working hours, we have dedicated ward nurses, and Veterinary Care assistants to care for you pet throughout their stay with us.

Disabled Access and Ample Parking

We’re excited to welcome you to our new location at Works 22! The Bridge Vets site offers plenty of safe, convenient parking for our clients – so you’ll never need to worry about finding a space when visiting us. We’ve also ensured that the surgery is fully accessible, with disabled access available for ease and comfort. Whether you’re coming in for a routine check-up or an emergency visit, we’ve made sure your arrival is as stress-free as possible.

Dental radiography

In line with advancements in human medicine, we have recently upgraded our facilities with state-of-the-art digital dental X-ray equipment. This technology provides us with high-resolution images that offer a much clearer and more detailed view of your pet’s oral health. By capturing images below the gum line, we can identify hidden issues such as root infections, bone loss, and impacted teeth—problems that may not be visible during a routine oral exam.

These insights allow us to make more accurate diagnoses during dental procedures and often lead to earlier interventions. As a result, we can potentially reduce the need for more invasive surgical dentistry in the future, making the experience safer and more comfortable for your pet.

Comprehensive In-House Laboratory

Our laboratory houses an array of modern blood and urine analysers, which process samples and attain results within hours. Speedy analysis ensures that we initiate prompt treatment for your sick pet. For tests that cannot be run on-site, we utilise a courier service to ensure that all samples reach the external laboratory by the following morning.

We offer pre-stud testing for breeding queens to certify FeLV (feline leukaemia virus) and FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus) status. We also utilise in-house microscopy to assist in the diagnosis of skin conditions and the analysis of urine samples.

Operating Theatre

The operating theatre is a dedicated, self-contained room designed specifically for carrying out surgical procedures in a clean, sterile, and controlled environment. This ensures the highest standards of hygiene and patient safety during operations. The theatre is equipped with a heated operating table to maintain the patient’s body temperature throughout the procedure, which is especially important during longer surgeries. An advanced anaesthetic delivery machine is available to administer and monitor anaesthesia safely. Additionally, a comprehensive range of modern monitoring equipment is used to track vital signs such as heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels, and respiration, allowing the surgical team to respond promptly to any changes in the patient’s condition.

Anaesthetic monitoring equipment

We have a multi-parameter machine, this monitors the patients heart rate, respiration rate, and levels of carbon dioxide and oxygen in the blood, blood pressure, temperature and ECG. This equipment provides the nurses with vital information essential for spotting trends and detecting any problems that may occur.

Autoclave Sterilisation

Surgical and dental equipment after use are thoroughly cleaned, packed and sterilised at extremely high temperatures in our autoclave.

Modern Dental machine

We have an ultrasonic scaler, electronic drill and polisher similar to the ones used by your own dentist. Remember, bad breath from your pet should not be ignored, as it can be a symptom of underlying disease.

Incubator

We are continually striving to provide excellent service for our patients and have invested in an incubator. This has many uses and can be used to provide heat and oxygen to critically ill patients, for neonates following caesareans, and post operatively.

V-gel® for rabbits

We have invested in the latest anaesthetic airway management system for rabbits. These easy to place tubes maintain the rabbits airway during anaesthesia and deliver oxygen and anaesthetic gas safely.

Infusion pumps

The surgery uses drip infusion pumps, which allow us to safely administer intravenous fluids, even to tiny patients. They are programmed to deliver a set amount of fluid over a period of time according the patients requirements, they have an alarm system in place that will alert staff that there may be a problem with the patient or the fluid delivery itself.

Wards

At the surgery, we’ve designed our facilities with the comfort and wellbeing of your pets in mind. We have separate dog and cat wards to ensure a calm and stress-free environment for each species, helping to reduce anxiety during their stay. For our larger canine patients, we provide two spacious walk-in runs, allowing them room to move around comfortably. Additionally, we have a dedicated, quieter ward tailored for small furries such as rabbits, guinea pigs, and other small mammals. This area is kept away from the hustle and bustle of the main practice to provide a peaceful space where they can rest and recover without the stress of loud noises or unfamiliar smells.

Doppler blood pressure

Our non invasive Doppler monitor allows us to be able to check a patients blood pressure quickly with minimal stress. It is portable so we can use it in a consultation, on hospitalised patients or in theatre.

Therefore we are are happy to recommend and refer to an appropriate specialist Veterinary service when required.

We are also happy to see you and your pet to offer a second opinion, and to work with neighbouring practices if you would like a consultation elsewhere for a second opinion. Please feel free to ring or call in to discuss your requirements.
